Welcome to the topology group at the University of
Copenhagen!
Our group is sponsored by Rømer and Steno grants from the
Danish Natural Science Research Council and a
EURYI award from the European Science Foundation. (Press: FIST,

Conferences and workshops:
Post-docs: The Topology Group at the Department of Mathematical
Sciences, University of Copenhagen is inviting for applications for 1-2
Post-Doc positions starting ca. September 1, 2007. The positions are 1 year
positions, with the posibility for renewal for an additional 2 years. The
salary will be that of an assistant professor (adjunkt) in the danish academic
system, which for foreign scientists means an after-tax salary comparable to US post-docs, due to a special "25 percent
tax scheme". The candidate is expected to become an
active member of the topology group. The teaching duties are very light,
typically restricted to teaching one yearly 9-week course related to the
candidate's research. Interested candidates should contact Jesper Grodal by
email. Review of applications will begin January 2, 2007.
Externally funded post-docs and Assistant Professorships: It is
possible to apply for post-doc funds through the Danish
Natural Science Research Council to work with our group. We strongly encourage and
support these applications. The relevant link is here
(click "Download the call in PDF" and look under postdoctoral and Steno grants).
The application deadline for these fellowships is March 1, 2007 at
3pm. Please contact the topology group ahead of this deadline.
PhD-studentships: The topology group is expected to fill several
PhD-studentships, to work with any member of the topology group. The PhD-program in Copenhagen is a
3-year program, with entering PhD-students required to hold the equivalent of a
masters degree. The stipend is around EUR2000/month before tax. Application for these go
through the Faculty of Science, with bianual application deadlines ca.
February 15 and August 15.
See here for application procedures. Interested candidates should also contact the member of
the group they wish to work with
well ahead of the indicated deadlines to discuss an application and topics proposal.
We keep in close contact with the Topology group in Aarhus. Overseas visitors are encouraged to visit both places while in Denmark.
Related groups a short flight from Copenhagen include the Aberdeen topology center, the Barcelona algebraic topology group, the Bonn topology group, the Topology Group Münster, the Oslo topology group, the Oxford topology group, the Edinburgh Geometry/Topology group, as well as the members of the Transpennine Topology Triangle and other British Topologists.
Copenhagen is served by Copenhagen airport. The Department of
Mathematical Sciences is ca 40 minutes by public transportation
from the airport.

Home address: Sortedam Dossering 59D, 3rd floor, DK-2100 Copenhagen, facing the central
lake "Sortedam Sø", en route
between Nørreport Station and the mathematics
department. From Nørreport station, take a bus as if
going to the math department but get off just after crossing
the lakes, and walk along the lake to your right until you
reach 59 (horseshoe shaped building, with a fountain in front).
